TRE Tension / Trauma Release Exercise

TRE Tension / Trauma Release Exercise

TRE, tension and trauma release exercise, is a set of 7 gentle, physical exercises that evoke a tremoring or shaking response to the body. The tremoring allows the body to release tension, stress and trauma at very deep levels.

Tension and Trauma Releasing Exercises (TRE) stretch and slightly fatigue muscles, a process that induces intentional therapeutic tremors. These tremors release deep muscular patterns of stress, tension, and trauma; they calm the nervous system and help the body return to a state of balance.

“TRE has helped me heal a long-standing muscular injury. I tried massages, cupping, and muscular strengthening, which all helped a little, but TRE is what really healed it. I believe this is because the injury was the direct result of an emotional trauma. I didn’t have a physical accident or any other physical cause to account for the injury, but the injury did occur during a personal crisis, and it is located directly in the area of my heart chakra. TRE has helped me release the emotions locked up in those muscles.

Also, TRE has helped my body feel more aligned and in-tune overall. I believe that the TRE exercises help me release little emotional tensions that hinder the energy flow of my body, and after I do the exercise and shake out those tensions, I feel great! Finally, Alyce is a great instructor. She is clear-spoken and understanding. Her knowledge of TRE is excellent and her way with students is very effective.”

Why do we need TRE?

If you have physical or psychological/psychiatric conditions that require strict regulation, have fragile psychological defenses, a complex history of trauma or restricting physical or medical limitations, consult your medical practitioner or a certified TRE provider before performing TRE.

What are the effects of STRESS?

ALL STRESS AND TRAUMAS AFFECT THE PHYSICAL BODY Every stress and trauma whether it occurs in a physiological, cognitive, emotional or interpersonal form affects the physical body. The healing of stress and trauma begins in the body. Since the body is an accurate history book of our experiences in life, it is essential that we include the body in the healing process.

What happens when we are stressed?

MUSCLE CONTRACTIONS PROTECT THE BODY DURING STRESS OR TRAUMA. Stress and trauma cause muscle contractions designed to protect the body from harm or possibly death during a stressful or traumatic episode. It is essential to release this chronic tension pattern after a stressful or traumatic event has ended. The contractions in these muscles must be released in order to restore the body back to its relaxed state and prevent the development of physical pain and other ‘dis-eases’.

Our Nervous system has the natural ability to resolve stressful or traumatic reactions.

What are Tremors?
The tremors are the central nervous system’s innate way of discharging excessive tension through the rapid muscle contraction and relaxation of the tremors to calm the body down from an over-excited adrenal state. Most people have experienced involuntary shaking (neurogenic tremors) such as ‘shaking like a leaf’ or ‘knocking knees’ after a severe shock or fright, when extremely nervous (such as before public speaking) or even in moments of extreme excitement and joy.

How does it feel when you do TRE?
Most of the exercises that initiate tremoring are ones you’ve experienced before, but the tremoring sensation itself may be new. Tremors spread from the legs, up the spine and release tension throughout your entire body.

Why work with a TRE provider?
A TRE provider teaches you how to activate your body’s tension release mechanism, how to regulate the shaking and how to stop it. Although you can learn TRE from a book or video, self-regulation is best learned from a provider who can assess your circumstances and address your questions. A provider is trained in alternate exercises that enable you to reap the full benefit of TRE while accommodating physical injuries and limitations. Once you’re trained and able to do TRE on your own, you’ll be empowered to release your own stress and trauma and won’t need a TRE provider. However, your provider can continue to serve as a resource if questions do arise during your practice.

Can TRE be used with other healing modalities?

It is an effective complement to other healing modalities; i.e., talk therapy, physical therapy, chiropractic, naprapathic and / or massage therapy.
